The Principality of Hutt River, often referred to by its former name—Hutt River Province—is one of the more notorious micronations in Australia. It was founded by Leonard Casley and came out of a protest against a wheat quota by the Australian government. A few years later Casley named himself Prince Leonard in reference to a British Treason Act of 1495 as an attempt to give his claim more weight. Hutt River has never been recognised as a country by the Australian Government or any other national government.
